Sabor de Gràcia - History
The group was founded in 1994 by two gipsies born in Gracia, Barcelona, Antonio “Sicus” Carbonell and Miguel “Miki” Fernández.
Their musical language, Rumba Catalana, was created by the gipsy communities of Gràcia, Hostafrancs and El Portal in Barcelona during the 50´s as a crossroad of two musical expressions: Flamenco and Afro-Cuban music. These Gipsy communities of Barcelona were established more than 200 years ago, they are fully integrated, speak Catalan as a mother-language and use this half-breed language, Rumba Catalana,as an identity transmitter.
In 1997 their first CD is published, TOTS ELS COLORS.
From then, they perform around Spain sharing stage with artists such as Lucrecia, Joan Manuel Serrat or Ketama.
Their second álbum EL MUNDO BAILA (2004) is one of the most interesting works that one could find among the popular music made in Europe.
Sabor de Gràcia is now ready to lead a new era for Rumba Catalana with the hope of reaching an international audience.
